NEWSLETTER (Sept '98)
We welcome Dr. Perryman
to Whinfield Surgery as a GP Registrar. She will be with us for six months
initially and will return to complete her training after further hospital
experience. She will be working under supervision from the more experienced
doctors in the practice. She has completed her medical degree and has
considerable hospital experience already but is new to General Practice.
As a practice we are involved in GP training as we feel it brings in new
ideas and skills and keeps us more up to date.
We thank you for your patience through the holiday season when doctors, nurses and reception staff are on leave. As staff return from leave we expect the appointment situation to improve. We are regularly reviewing the appointment system to increase flexibility but would still ask you to see your usual doctor where possible.
'FLU VACCINES
The influenza vaccine will help to protect vulnerable patients from a serious illness. It will not prevent coughs and colds. We would recommend all aged 75 and over plus those with heart, lung and kidney conditions plus diabetics and those with impaired immunity for whatever reason to have a vaccination. There are many strains of Influenza and each year there are usually three in the vaccine. Yearly jabs are necessary to build up immunity to as many types as possible.
Some people may have a mild 'flu-like illness after vaccination. This may be a reaction or a coincidental infection with one of the many cold viruses around in the Autumn and Winter.
The vaccine has arrived. Look out for details of vaccination sessions.

SURGERY EXTENSION
We have now almost completed the extension to the surgery. We hope that you will find the new waiting area calmer and more comfortable. We now have more rooms than before and this increases facilities for visiting specialists and counsellors allowing an improved service. Thank you for your patience during alterations.
