AUTUMN NEWSLETTER
1998
Winter has arrived and with it coughs and colds and flu like illnesses . We do appreciate that more and more of you are
treating these mild infections yourselves or visiting chemists first. If your symptoms are severe or persistent do come for
advice, but if we feel it is a viral illness there is little we can offer you. There is still no cure for the common cold .
If your glands are enlarged this is a natural response as your own defence system , the immune system , attacks the
infection They will return to normal size after the infection clears.
We were recently honoured to have Darlington MP Alan Milburn open our extended building .We hope you find the
facilities more comfortable and we can continue to offer an increasing range of services on site.
Thanks are due to many but particularly Practice Manager Trish Brett and Doctor Chou who spent many extra hours
making sure everything went to plan.
EVENING AND WEEKEND EMERGENCY SERVICE 01325 462168
Like most other surgeries in Darlington we have an arrangement with Cleveland Healthcall who are able to offer a
professional emergency service, staffed mainly by local GPs but also some full-time doctors.
If you have a problem that cannot wait until normal surgery hours {8.30-6pm Mon-Fri and 8.30-11 Sat } ringing the
emergency number above will give you a recorded message and a telephone number to contact.
You may have to wait in a queue but your problem will be assessed by trained staff and a doctor if necessary . They will
decide on whether advice , attendance at an emergency surgery, or a home visit, is necessary.
This decision is based on MEDICAL NEED not availability of transport.
