NEWSFLASH- FLU EPIDEMIC Nationwide
Young fit adults and children without asthma- do not panic
FLU is a condition that the bodys immune system will deal with if you
are in reasonable health. Simply rest and take plenty of fluids and
paracetomol for temperature and aches and you should be better in under
a week.
There is no point taking antibiotics for simple flu because they do not
attack the flu virus.
Sometimes people develop a second infection while run down with flu
such as a chest infection. This may benefit from antibiotics. Chest
infections are likely if you have a cough that produces discoloured
phlegm for several days. Your doctor can sound your chest to see if their
is any evidence of chest infection if such a cough is lasting over 3-4
days. Often people are simply coughing up catarrh from their throat and
we cannot offer any useful treatment for this- cold treatments are not
available on prescription.
The Elderly and those with Heart,Chest and Kidney conditions
These patients and those with Diabetes are more prone to Flu and also to
suffering from complications such as chest infections or worsening of
their other conditions under the stress of a dose of flu.
They are the ones who should seek medical advice early if they feel a
significant change in their condition as they are more vulnerable.
