TIREDNESS

We find that this is an extremely common symptom and whilst it is occasionally the only symptom of important conditions such as thyroid disease, anaemia and diabetes it is often difficult to pin down an exact cause. As with other symptoms which may represent serious disease but often don't it can be difficult to decide whether to consult us. If you are genuinely concerned we will always respect that and take your concerns seriously.

Indications that it might be more than simple tiredness are:

After talking to you the doctor may feel that your tiredness may be explained by your lifestyle and suggest changes. Examination may reveal a cause such as anaemia, diabetes or thyroid disorder. Blood and/or other tests may sometimes be necessary to confirm these findings - or if normal reassure you. Sometimes, if there is no obvious physical cause other explanations may be offered such as stress reaction, chronic anxiety or even depression.
