PSYCHIATRIC AND EMOTIONAL
PROBLEMS
OFTEN crises can arise at times when routine services are not available. External events can precipitate them as can internal ruminations. Obviously it is impossible to give standard answers to these sorts of problems - each individual and each situation is different. However, in most cases it is best that the person deals with the doctor and/or nurse who knows them best but this is rarely available out of hours.
IF the situation is such that either the patient or their companion is seriously worried that delaying contact with the health services is putting their well-being at risk then the duty doctor is available by telephone. They may be able to deal with the situation by telephone or they may arrange to visit or make other arrangements for you.
IN case of emotional distress it may be helpful to talk to the Samaritans - 0345 909090. To go to their website click here.
