TRAVEL CLINIC

A travel clinic is held at Whinfield Surgery each week by our practice nurse Angela Gill.

For a typical two week holiday to most popular tourist resorts, an appointment six weeks prior to travelling, is adequate.

We advise that you ring the surgery, to speak to Angela Gill, before you make an appointment if the following applies to you:

You have previously attended the travel clinic and wish only to confirm your vaccination record, and establish any need for additional or booster vaccinations.

You plan an extended or work related trip abroad, as vaccines may be required earlier than six weeks prior to your travel date.

You have existing health problems/disabilities, which may require specific consideration. Eg diabetes, asthma, multiple sclerosis, ME, recent treatment for cancer.

We are unable to offer BCG immunisation for tuberculosis, and yellow fever vaccination. If required advice will be given as to where these can be obtained.

Although appropriate vaccinations are important, consideration of other potential risks in the area you are visiting, can be equally or even more important to consider. These include:

Malaria prophylaxis.

Accidents and injuries.

Healthy eating and drinking.

Taking care in the sun.

Safe sex.

Late bookings: It is very popular to take advantage of last minute holiday bookings. This may result in insufficient time being available for you to arrange a travel clinic appointment. If you are planning to book your holiday in this way, but know which country you intend to visit, it would be appropriate to make an appointment in the travel clinic, in advance of your booking, as most vaccines and advice apply to all countries you may visit.

We cannot guarantee you an appointment in the travel clinic without adequate notice. If we are unable to offer you an appointment, or it is more convenient for you, we recommend you attend the British Airways Travel Clinic in Newcastle.
